4:30pm - Harold Dawson (link)
Born in Chicago and raised in Kentucky, Dawson's journey into music was one of destiny, rather than choice. Aged thirteen, his life was irrevocably changed when he was gifted his first saxophone by his aunt. It was the beginning of a lifelong love affair with music, one that was nurtured by the smooth jazz melodies he heard on the radio during visits to his grandparents in Chicago. The influence of renowned artists like Boney James, Kenny G, and Dave Koz ignited in him a desire to blend the magic of classical music with the soul of jazz. Dawson's evolution as an artist is a testament to his unwavering dedication and resilience. Despite the hurdles life threw at him, he chose to chase his dreams rather than surrender to circumstances. A chance meeting with Dave Koz in 2015 was a turning point, fueling his determination to make a name for himself in the recording industry. The pandemic of 2019 brought another challenge - and with it, another pivotal moment in his journey. Choosing passion over stability, Dawson said goodbye to his regular job to become a full time musician, a decision he took with the unwavering support of his family. His music is an ethereal blend of Smooth Jazz, R&B, Funk, and Soul, a reflection of his vast musical influences and his ability to assimilate different styles into a sound that is uniquely his. Dawson is not just a performer; he is a musical storyteller, weaving narratives through his melodies that transport listeners to another time and place. His performances are a celebration of the intimate bond between musician and instrument, a bond that brings his music alive and wraps his audiences in a warm, melodious embrace.
